Heather French here – one half of the French & French Interiors team! My husband Matt and I own and operate our design agency in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and we’re thrilled to be part of this year’s Winter Eclectic Home Tour!

Hosted by the multi-talented designer and blogger Jessica Rey of Domicile 37, this online tour showcases some of the most unique and interesting designs you can find this season. We welcome you here after your last stop at House Homemade.

Our home is a unique reflection of our family history, diverse interests, and design tastes. We love mixing and matching vintage and modern styles using bold colors and patterns. Come on in, and I’ll show you how we kick things up for the holidays!

Entrance

We always want visitors to feel welcome in our home, and we love the cheery colors of the beautiful nobilis fabric on this vintage French settee. On the wall, you’ll see a salon-style collection of our favorite family photos, which gives our front room more warm personality.

Our secret for hanging greens at Christmas is 3M hooks! I love how hanging wreaths from mirrors can quickly transform a space into something wonderfully festive and bright.

As you move into our main living area, you’ll see a table and chairs we picked up at a vintage store. We recovered the chairs in an orange stripe similar to the French nobilis from the entrance, then painted them white. The Christmas decorations on the table are a mix of vintage and whimsical pieces we’ve gathered from home stores, and even TJ Maxx. Remember, you can find lovely pieces everywhere: just keep your eyes out, and only purchase what speaks to you!

Great Room

Every year, we hike into the national forest and pick out a tree. Like our home, our tree is a reflection of our family history, travels, and diverse tastes. Many of our ornaments have stories attached, and we enjoy taking them out every year and revisiting the memories.

The portrait on the wall is of our daughter by artist Nigel Conway. Custom pieces like this can really convey a lot of meaning in a space, since they’re special for so many reasons! Bright colors and fun patterns match our design style, plus we have a unique piece of art that’s personal to our family.

We love using vibrant colors even more during the holidays. The bright red tablecloth is one of my absolute favorites; it’s actually a vintage wedding textile from India! To keep things from being too visually cluttered on the bookshelf, we categorized all the books, and then turned them backwards. The neat stacks make for a calming vignette amongst the bold table and natural pine boughs.

Our kitchen opens up to the living area, which I love even more at this time of big family gatherings. We can all be together while preparing meals, so nobody misses any of that treasured family time!

In a kitchen it’s not always practical to bring out a ton of seasonal decor, but I do have some festive dish towels just for the holidays.

Master Bedroom

Moving to the master bedroom, you’ll see on the wall a Moroccan wedding textile. Matt hung it using carpet strips in a super easy DIY project! We built out the back of the carpet strip with some wood to let it stand about an inch from the wall. The super sharp points on the strip easily hold the fabric in place. Plus, mounting it this way is less damaging (and more secure) than using thumbtacks.

The beautiful prints above our bed were passed down to us by a dear family friend who’s traveled around the world over forty times! Another of my favorite elements in this room is the brass chandelier that Matt made.
This picture shows off our ceilings too. They’re made entirely of rough sawn wood from the Pecos National Forest, which isn’t far from here. In front of our bed is a bench made from vintage saris. We love the pop of color it adds! To tie the room colors together, we purchased our duvet from Anthropologie.

Master Bath

I am so in love with the picture window above our master bath! It’s the ultimate retreat at the end of a long day. The soaking tub is from Vintage Tub & Bath.

Our minimalist vanity is from Sig Hardware. The lovely flower paintings are by artist Thomas Pell, and I was lucky to find this pair of beauties at a garage sale. We lit the vanity area with pendant lights and vintage mercury lampshades.

Our Girl’s Bedroom

Every year at the holidays, we place a tiny tree in our daughter’s room that she gets to decorate all on her own. She loves having the responsibility of picking out her own ornaments, and it gives her a chance to express her own creativity.

My favorite thing about her room is the plastic stars that glow in the dark. We affixed these to the wall in a large shooting star shape that is so gorgeous when the lights go out!
Her white toddler bed comes from Restoration Hardware, and the fabric on the pink pillow is by designer Manual Canovas. The artwork is by one of my favorite artists, Bethany Forloney.
